A brand name alone cannot determine a car key replacement price. Compare vehicle-specific quotes, key types, parts, cutting, programming and travel charges.
Why There Is No Reliable One-Price-Per-Brand List
Two cars from the same brand can need different keys, parts and programming methods. The year, model, equipment and whether a working key remains matter more than a brand-only price table. A lost-all-keys job is not the same request as adding a spare.
This guide does not provide invented prices or a fixed dealer-versus-locksmith savings percentage. Ask for an itemized quote for your actual vehicle and confirm what could change after inspection.
What to Ask When Requesting a Quote by Brand
For a Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet or Hyundai, provide the exact year and model and say whether the vehicle uses a turn-key ignition or push-button start. Do not assume every vehicle from a familiar brand uses the same key or is supported by every locksmith.
For a BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Land Rover, provide the same details and ask the provider to confirm the supported system before booking or purchasing a replacement fob. A photo of a similar-looking key is not enough to prove compatibility.
For a Tesla or another vehicle with card or phone-based access, describe which access methods still work and consult the manufacturer instructions. A conventional metal-key or remote-key quote may not describe the work you need.
These examples are quote questions, not a promise that Auto Key SD supports every model, generation or access system. Call to check your specific vehicle.
Compare the Same Work, Not Just the Headline Price
Ask whether the total includes the key or fob, blade cutting, transponder key programming or key fob programming as applicable, vehicle access, labor, travel and applicable tax. Confirm whether the quoted part is original manufacturer equipment or an aftermarket replacement and what warranty applies.
Ask if the quote assumes an existing working key. If all keys are lost or a replacement bought online cannot be used, the required work and total can change. Approve additional work before it starts.
Compare the appointment or mobile options, parts availability and whether the vehicle needs to be brought in. A lower headline quote is not directly comparable if it excludes required work or transport.
Have These Details Ready
Provide the vehicle year, make and model, your location, the key functions that still work and whether the car is locked. Have identification and ownership or authorized-use documents ready; ask the provider which documents are required.
After replacement, check starting, applicable door locks and remote functions with the technician. Keep the itemized receipt and written warranty terms. A working remote button alone does not demonstrate that the vehicle recognizes the starting key.
